Introducing Discovery 947 Ride Joburg – it’s the same adrenaline-pumping challenge,but with new and exciting features. Still starting and finishing at Riversands Commercial Park and organised by the same trusted Organising Committee – you can expect the same world-class event that you have known for the past 23 years.
Back by popular demand, you’ll ride last year’s flipped route that spans approximately 94.7km of thrilling Joburg terrain that you get to own for a day! Supported and hosted by the City of Joburg, this means that you get to cycle safely, while enjoying full road closures along the route.

Where do I download my number collection document?
This link is only valid for Discovery 947 Ride Joburg entrants entries received up to and including 7 October 2019. Entries received thereafter will receive their start times at a later stage.

How much is the late entry fee?
The late entry fee is R800 per person (incl 15% VAT and R10 CSA rider levy).
When will late entries be available?
The Discovery 947 Ride Joburg late entries will be available at number collection.
Do I have to qualify for Discovery 947 Ride Joburg?
It is recommend that you partake in events which are over 90km and timed by Racetec in order to better your seeding for Discovery 947 Ride Joburg.
How old do you have to be to enter Discovery 947 Ride Joburg?
The minimum age is 12 years. Should anyone younger than 9 years want to ride tandem, we require a letter of consent from a parent or guardian.
What kind of bikes are allowed?
Any traditional bicycle or tandem bicycle that is not motorised. Recumbent and hand cycles are allowed in certain categories. Time trial bikes are not permitted. E-Bikes are allowed however strict T&C’s apply (see e-bike T&C’s).
How will I be timed?
Racetec timing chips are compulsory. If you do not already have a Racetec Timing Chip one will automatically be allocated to your basket when entering online. Chips are sold at R150 (incl VAT).The Chip is compulsory.

What if I forget my race number at home?
No number, no ride.
How long do I have to finish Discovery 947 Ride Joburg?
The basis of completing the ride is six hours from the last start group however there are cut-off points along the route which you need to stay ahead of on the day. Check the website or your e-Race Brochure for the cut-off times.
What if I decide during the race that I cannot continue?
There is a sweep protocol in place on the day to return retiring cyclists to the finish venue. Tip:try to get to a waterpoint for mechanical or sweep assistance.
How early should I arrive at the venue?
Be at the venue at least an hour before your start time so that you have time to find parking and make your way to the Start. Please note that there may be traffic delays at the venue due to volumes of traffic accessing the venue.
Are there Water Points along the route?
Yes, there are nine Water Points along the 94.7km route and four Water Points on the 40km route. Each water point offers water, Coke and Powerade. Make sure you have your water bottle. Mechanics, physios, and medical support are available at the Water Points.
Are there road closures along the route?
Discovery 947 Ride Joburg is Joburg’s safest race and full road closures will be in effect along the route.
