Wondering about where the best place is to catch the cyclists?
Don't fret, we've got you with some of the great spots to get a glimpse of the cyclists riding by and owning the streets of Joburg.
Water points are your first best bet at great viewing spots. The further along the route the water point, the longer it will be open. Something to keep in mind.
Top 4 spectator points
If you are not heading out on Ride Joburg Sunday and are looking for somewhere to cheer on the cyclists we would like to suggest the following spots:
- Dunkeld Shopping Centre
- Zoo Lake
- Braamfontein (just before the Nelson Mandela Bridge)
- Cnr Leslie Road and Douglas Road (in Douglasdale)
If you are unable to make any of these points, anywhere along the route is also an option. Just be mindful of the cyclists, and of your own safety.
Water points are a great vibe spot too as there will be music in the area. Most cyclists take the opportunity to get off their bikes at the water points and get a refreshment before carrying on with their ride.
What to take with you to be a champion spectator:1. Camper chair will come in handy. Otherwise, you might find yourself having to sit on the pavement2. A skaftina with some treats and snacks to keep you3. Plenty of water to keep hydrated.4. Suncreen and a hat to protect your skin and get some shade from the sun.5. A powerbank to keep your phone charged to be able to take all the selfies with cyclists in the background.6. A great vibe for the cyclists.
Road closures aside, it is a wonderful opportunity for the cycling supporters and residents of the City to plug into the amazing vibe we create on race day. There are a couple of spectator zones where you, your family and friends can have a great day out supporting the cyclists and connecting with your community. We'd love to see you there.Alexia Poulos, Primedia Broadcasting Group Events Manager
We urge you to get out there and be part of the 23rd Ride Joburg, as the cyclist will need all the encouragement they can get!
