Steyn City to host Discovery 947 Mountain Bike and Kiddies Rides in 2019

Mountain biking, by its very nature, is often enjoyed in far off places. But approximately 15km north of Sandon CBD, riders in the 2019 Discovery 947 Mountain Bike Ride will enjoy incredible trails that make them feel like they’re far out, while actually being fairly close.

The popular annual event which sees over will now start and end in the parkland estate of Steyn City - enjoying legendary cycling tracks that make this one of Joburg's most scenic rides.

And for the very first time, Steyn City will also play host to the Discovery 947 Kiddies Ride - an annual spectacle of around 1500 children ranging from 2 to 10 years riding all forms of cycle on a pre-determined course.

It's an absolute privilege to be hosting these Discovery 947 Ride Joburg events, particularly since the event is so closely aligned with our own values. Steyn City's carefully considered design promotes family time and outdoor living, with a host of facilities - including outdoor gym nodes, running tracks, children's play nodes and kilometres of promenade - developed with this in mind.

Cycling is clearly a part of that vision, too. Once again three fantastic route options are on offer for this year's event, all commencing in Steyn City. They cover a range of skill and fitness and, while the 25km and the 55km routes are kept separate to avoid congestion, both have variety of track and stunning scenery in common.

We're also excited to be able to showcase everything our magnificent parkland residence has to offer to fans of the cycle race. We're looking forward to making this a thrilling day for all.

Access to the trails in Steyn City, Heron Bridge College and Northern Farm presents a super once-a-year opportunity to experience Joburg in a unique way, with some veld track and river trails - all thanks to great relationships and the vision of local landowners.

Route Director Richard Beswick and his team are hard at work weeks in advance of the ride; cutting back vegetation, preparing the track and assessing obstacles - improvements that are left for others to enjoy afterwards.

The 25km is the perfect mix for the beginner to intermediate rider. It's got a nice mix of everything. Nothing too challenging: A little single track to keep things interesting but mostly on dirt roads and jeep track which is what the 25km rider wants.

There promises to be a little bit of everything, catering to just about every level of rider. So enter Discovery 947 Ride Joburg MTB Race now! Entries close Friday, 4 October.
